The consequences can range from disappointingly low sales to settling for mediocre results to even throwing in the towel of entrepreneurship.
This may surprise you to know, but in the early stages of growing what is now a multimillion dollar business, I experienced times where I let myself get “taken out”, too. I would get scared and hold back my growth. Or I played small because of worrying that others might say, “Who does she think she is?”
And that’s the thing about understanding what takes you out. You need to know what are you telling yourself that makes you play small. And what triggers it. Is it when you’re about to make a big leap forward? Or when you’re about to raise your fees? Or launch a new program or product?
Luckily for me, every time that part of me tried to keep me down, inside was a small, still voice that kept whispering to me that fear and doubt are never truth.
I knew in my heart that if I let myself get taken out too often or for too long, that I would be settling for mediocre, when so much more is possible.
And that’s the point. When you focus on what’s at stake — meaning, all of the amazing results, income and experiences you’re meant to have as an entrepreneur — you realize that letting yourself get “taken out” is no longer an option. There’s simply too much you’re meant to do with your life to allow anything to stand in your way of fulfilling your potential.
Here are 3 specific reasons why you MUST catch yourself in the act of taking yourself out and reverse that energy into decisive action (tell me, which of these reasons weighs in as the MOST important to you?)…
Reason #1 You Get To Be Of Service, And In A Big Way
If you’re truly committed to helping others then trust me, you have what it takes to be successful. What’s key is to stay in action, even when doubt or fear tries to take you out. Think of it this way: whatever is trying to take you out — doubt, fear, obstacles, challenges — is testing your commitment. I often remind my program clients that their desire to help others is stronger than their fear. This advice sees them through any dark moments that might otherwise take them off course.
Reason #2 You Get To Create Transformation…And Get Paid For It
Being an entrepreneur is a sacred gift. You’re being paid to help others create transformation and in the process, you’re growing into your potential. But entrepreneurship isn’t for the faint of heart. Not because it’s tough to get clients (that part becomes surprisingly simple once you have the right systems and training in place — like the ones we mentor our clients to implement) but because of how you’ll be challenged to grow as a person. My advice? Keep stretching the limit of what you think is possible because you are capable of SO much more than you give yourself credit for!
Reason #3 You Get To Create Financial Freedom And Be Your Own Boss
Sometimes, when you’re running into snags growing your business, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that you’re creating something that has unlimited growth possibilities. Yes, there may be challenges but where else can you create a 6-figure(+) income? Or take mornings off to volunteer at your kids’ school and be there for them when they get home from school? Or be respected as a credible expert and asked to speak in front of appreciative audiences?
The Rewards Of Being An Entrepreneur Far Outweigh The Temporary Discomfort Of Feeling Fear Or Doubt, Agreed?
The next time you’re tempted to tell yourself, “I’m not ready. It’s not the right time. I need to wait until (my website is done, I have a bigger list, I know how to blah, blah, blah)” remember this: Which is greater — your desire to help others or the feeling of fear? Let this be your strength anytime you need reminding that being successful is your birthright!
