I’m enjoying time off this week to work ON my business, planning our marketing calendar and creating amazing new content for our 2013 Stars Courageous Coaching® Club program members.
One of the joys of running my business is I can make the adjustments I need in order for it to work with my schedule.
So instead of my feature-length marketing article I want to share a deeply personal, “behind the scenes” story with you about something that happened to me that transformed my life in a big way forever.
I think it’s really going to inspire you!
You see, when I first started out in business I didn’t think I could share my REAL story. I was afraid of being judged or criticized.
But when people only see what success looks like from the “outside”, they don’t get a real feel for who you really are. In my case, it’s easy to see how I run a multi-million dollar business working from home, that I enjoy an awesome lifestyle with my horses and how my programs and workshops are super popular and win awards for excellence.
But what you DON’T see is where I started from and the choices I made that, at the time, looked crazy, but now, looking back, have brought me to where I am today.
So may I take courageous action, open up and reveal something deeply personal with you?
One of the reasons I’m able to be so courageous in my business today is because of something that happened to me back in the days when I was waiting tables, making just $25 per day.
After years of waitressing I was desperate to improve my life. The thing is, I needed $4,000 to pay for a training program that would give me a career.
That sum represented a fortune for me! I had no idea how I was going to get that kind of money but I knew I had to find a way, else I would be stuck where I was forever.
Was I scared to make that kind of investment? Yes! Thoughts of “Would it be worth it?” and “Would it help me get into a career that I loved?” kept my mind racing.
And I worried about whether I would succeed with thoughts of “Am I smart/good enough to do this? Will I fail? What if I didn’t do well?”
But I stayed committed to my decision.
And I knew I HAD to believe in myself, even when it felt so scary to do so because the alternative — staying stuck — would have meant giving up on myself.
What I did to create the money still brings tears to my eyes.
I sold everything I could, tucked my few remaining possessions into a storage unit and moved into a van to save the money I needed.
I lived in that van for 6 months, saving every penny I could.
It was one of the most humbling experiences of my life … and one of the most powerful.
Why?
Because it showed me that if I stayed focused on what I wanted, and was willing to stretch out of my comfort zone, the way would show up. And it did.
Enrolling in that training program turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life!
The skills, training and opportunities I gained from that experience was life-altering and brought me to where I am today: running an award winning, multi-million dollar coaching business that I built from scratch.

Opportunities typically have expiration dates on them and these moments don’t last forever!
