I didn’t have a list of ways in which to market, had never heard of a marketing calendar and had no idea that marketing was something that I, as a budding entrepreneur, was supposed to do…daily.
I remember the day the light bulb went on (finally!) and I connected the dots that all I had to do was engage in just a few marketing activities, and do them consistently, to reap the rewards of a steady stream of new clients flowing in.
When it comes to marketing it’s easy to slip into overwhelm with all of the ways you can market your business.
So before trying to figure out all the details of a complicated Internet launch with all the bells and whistles, I recommend taking a step back and considering whether you’re making the most of a few simple tools that can net you new clients, every week.
Remember, marketing doesn’t have to be complicated to gain you new clients…and YOU staying sane and happy while growing your business is important to staying passionate and committed to your entrepreneurial journey.
So here are 3 marketing basics that will help you build your business and are easy enough to accomplish that they’ll still give you time to serve your clients and enjoy your life.
#1. Master the 3 Basics That Bring In The Money
Invest in learning these 3 basic marketing strategies and you’ll never run short of clients or exciting opportunities to grow your business. Best of all, you’ll find that they form the backbone of more complex campaigns or launches that you can add on later in your business development:
Discovery Sessions – How confident are you in picking up the phone and delivering a Discovery session? Out of every 5 phone calls, will at least 3 turn into paying clients? If you’re not quite ‘there’ yet, then it’s time to master this crucial skill. The faster you get it under your belt now, the easier growing your business will be.
Email – Do you stay in consistent contact with your list? Even more importantly, is your content simple, short, easy to follow and tip oriented? Lastly, are you always mentioning an offer in your newsletter? People are busy and need to be reminded that you’re available to help them solve their problem, through your programs, VIP days, workshops and more.
Speaking – Speaking is the fastest way to build a high-quality list of people who connect with YOU and your energy. Just be sure you have a simple system you use consistently each time you speak, to get people onto your list, so you don’t lose those leads. Then, you can follow up with personal phone calls or email invitations into Discovery sessions, resulting in new clients.
#2: Make Consistency Your Priority
You can easily create consistency in your marketing by scheduling in time to broadcast your newsletter twice per month, speak 2-3 times per month, and make follow up calls 3-4 times each week. Plus, by setting a goal of delivering a certain number of Discovery sessions every week, you’re going to give your marketing energy and focus. And remember to always offer clients the next option as they near the end of their programs.
The point is that you can skip overwhelm simply by using the power of consistency to fuel your marketing. Not only will you quickly become more comfortable with marketing, your clients and potential clients will have more opportunities to respond to your offers.
#3: Remember That “Done Is Better Than None!”
Tweaking and fiddling with your marketing to make it perfect only results in slower or no sales. Give yourself time to improve as you go and you’ll get better results than waiting until everything is perfect (which trust me, it will never be!).
While it’s tempting to think about investing in paid social media advertising, complicated launches or other strategies, why not keep your life simple and focus on serving your clients?
You can build a successful business by focusing first on these marketing basics. You’ll have more time to enjoy creating and working with clients. And those advanced techniques will still be there when you’re ready!
