Have you read Shonda Rhimes book, “Year of Yes”?
I’m LOVING IT.
As in, binge-worthy caramel salted chocolate gelato loving it.
She’s candid. Funny (of course).
And she lets us in on her insecurities.
Because she doesn’t just tell us what she’s said yes to…
…She reveals where she was before the yes.
When she was frightened (yes, successful women can still be afraid), introverted and a major people pleaser.
Here’s why I’m sharing this with you…
A couple of months ago I decided to face head on my FOMO.
To be in full-on FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) you have to value things that I don’t want to have present in my life.
Like comparison, judging and scarcity.
I hate those things and I started noticing how FOMO was not only triggering those feelings, it was also keeping those feelings locked into place.
My ‘go to’ place that I would rather not be in, you know what I mean?
My top Sacred Money Archetypes® are Ruler, Maverick and Accumulator so FOMO plays beautifully right into the shadow side of who I am.
Strengthening my shadow is not on my bucket list!
So I started letting go of FOMO.
The first actions were easy – for example, unsubscribe from newsletters I wasn’t even opening or kept telling myself I would ‘someday’.
What was trickier was noticing when I would say, “Oh but I need to watch what so-and-so is doing because…”
By the way, if you’re at all familiar with the money belief work I do then you know that anything following the ‘because’ is a justification of a belief.
Doesn’t matter if the belief is ‘good’ or ‘not good’, its justification means it’s yours to keep until you decide to replace it with a different, better or new one.
So for the past month I’ve been noticing every time I take an action in my business with the thought of “because I need to…”.
I stop and ask myself, “Really? Is that REALLY the reason? Or is this just more comparison, judging and scarcity?”
Uh-huh. Busted.
Busting myself has become my new delight.
And you know what?
I’m starting to feel…freer. Lighter, happier.
More open to possibility and able to hear my intuition more clearly (I love my intuition – it’s a totally badass part of myself that I adore).
And I can tell this is just the beginning.
That I’m just scratching the surface.
At the end of my year of giving up FOMO will I end up writing a book like Shonda Rhimes titled ‘My Year Of No FOMO’?
Who knows. Right now I’m more interested in LIVING without FOMO and seeing where it takes me.
For sure, I’ll keep you posted.
Oh, and my Ruler, Maverick and Accumulator?
They’re happier because without the shadow side getting so much attention I’m focusing on the gifts of these beautiful archetypes.
Which includes an AMAZING new money coaching opportunity with me that I will be revealing later next month.
I’ll keep you posted as this No-FOMO journey unfolds…
Love,
Kendall
