The feelings most women have associated with getting on the phone and speaking with a potential client are anything but positive or life-affirming.
And yet, in our hearts, we women entrepreneurs LOVE talking with people. We love sharing what we do. We delight in connecting with someone’s needs and exploring if we can help them. And we genuinely enjoy feeling the special fulfillment that comes when we’re being of service.
So why the emotional drama at the prospect of signing on a new client?
Because we feel — and fear — being judged…and coming up wanting.
Which is why enrolling conversations are a litmus test for our self-esteem.
It’s as if our self-image has a nervous tick that we’re hoping no one will notice, and the scrutiny of judgments that we fear will happen in an enrolling conversation shines a glaring spotlight on every flaw our ego has been trying so hard to hide.
Okay. So, first step? Take a breathe. Really.
Because the worst is over.
You’ve felt your troubled feelings and you’re ready to let them go.
Let’s start with this question: Do you know in your heart you can help people?
Awesome!
Now let me share with you 3 mindset shifts that will place you purposefully in your place of empowerment when speaking with prospective clients!
Mindset Shift #1: Discover A Fresh PERSPECTIVE
Your next enrolling conversation is just that — ONE conversation! It’s not the only one or even the last one you’ll ever have. When approached as THE ONE you’re applying unnecessary pressure to yourself, and triggering the “OMG!” area of your brain. In other words, setting yourself up for a major freak out.
Consider that this is one conversation out of dozens, even hundreds and yes, even thousands that you’ll have over the life of your business. Which is why I challenge my clients to focus on creating momentum. Meaning, a steady stream of conversations. Because when you see the flow happening and you know that after today’s conversation there will be so many more, you can relax into being in connection with your ideal client.
Mindset Shift #2: Loosen Your GRIP
Yes, I understand. Money is the fuel that runs your business. We all need it but you need other things too, such as air, food, water and shelter and you don’t seem to be running around in a desperate panic saying, “I need to breathe!” You just…breathe.
The money is there for you. I promise. Creating money is a system and a skill that anyone can learn. I’ve taught it to thousands of women so I know you can learn it too. 🙂
Mindset Shift #3: Thank God For This OPPORTUNITY
As entrepreneurs in service-based businesses, we have the truly extraordinary ability to make incredible incomes. We can write our own entrepreneurial paycheck, limited only by the amount of wealth we can imagine ourselves creating.
I know this sounds woo-woo but it’s actually a fact. I was a waitress for years, making an average of $25 dollars per day. Now my business generates multi 7-figures. I have dozens of clients who started out making less than $2k per month and are now regularly landing $12,000 – $25,000 clients. My mom has a 6-figure business (I’m so proud of you mom!).
Do you think they dread or fear an enrolling conversation? No way! They are steeped in gratitude at the opportunity to be of service and to charge what they’re worth.
All Fear Of Judgment Is O.P.C. (Other Peoples’ Crap) Mistakenly Taken On By YOU
Enrolling conversations are simply an opportunity to see if one person’s needs are something you can help fulfill. And whether it’s a relationship that continues or not, you leave the call empowered (what did you do masterfully during the call?), enriched (which of the Discovery Session skills did you focus on?) and connected powerfully to your courage (you asked for the sale, right?)
So dump the fear of judgment where it belongs, in the trash!
And focus on expertly leading your prospective client through a conversation that illuminates how big their need to hire you truly is!
