It’s no secret that I’ve been a leader of the premium coaching model since before it was a thing.
But I see a lot of misconceptions floating around about what it isn’t, that are preventing whole-hearted women from stepping into using it in their coaching business.
Please note, if you’ve been struggling with how to package your coaching, or with how to justify higher-end coaching fees, then this article may be the most important piece you read this month.
You’ve likely heard of the premium coaching model — coaching higher level clients at a greater coaching rate than the typical per-hour fees many coaches mistakenly use.
What you may not know is why this model works so brilliantly for coaches at every level of expertise and experience, and why it can work for you, too.
The ability to sign on a premium client is so substantially important for thriving in a coaching business, that you won’t see any of the most successful coaches you know and admire hesitating for even an instant to build their business on it as their foundation.
But does ‘going premium’ mean you must be the most expensive? No.
Does it mean that you would only working with wealthy people? No.
And does it mean that you would be out-pricing yourself from your ideal clients? No.
Designing your coaching business on the Premium Model means you are willing to break away from the noisy, same-same crowd, and BE significant.
Designing your coaching business on the Premium Model means you’re willing to bring your A game to your coaching.
Your A game is showing up powerfully with your coaching questions, having proven content you coach a client through as your Signature System®, and being confident enough in your coaching skills that you don’t allow clients to get by with the ‘little things’ like limiting beliefs, confusion or overwhelm that ultimately cheat them out of creating the in-depth transformation it’s fully within your power to deliver.
I remember the day back in 2006 when I decided to switch from month by month coaching, into the premium model.
That day stands out vividly for me, because I felt terrified…and exhilarated.
I knew intuitively that breaking away from the crowd was going to be life-changing.
But in making that pivotal shift, I had to let go of self-doubts, and embrace new beliefs.
And while at first I worried I would be leaving people behind, I found instead that the premium model lifts everyone up.
Here are just a few insights you’ll experience designing your coaching business using the Premium Coaching Model:
- It shifts you OUT of complexity in your business, and self-limiting income ceilings
- Clients you may have thought ‘don’t have the money’ will surprise you by rising to the challenge of finding the money (and trust me, their commitment to their own success makes them THE best clients to work with!)
- It’s a mirror for any money sh*t you have that needs to be healed and released so that you’re finally free
- Your business becomes highly profitable with a small number of clients, even in the early stages of going Premium (think boutique rather than a big box store)
- It positions you as highly valuable and a leader for your tribe
- You have money to re-invest in your business, to uplevel your lifestyle or contribute more to your family, or to give back if that’s your dream
- Your business becomes infinitely more secure because of the powerful reputation you start building into your brand
- Your confidence shoots through the roof because you quickly learn how to hold yourself in higher esteem, and you get to experience what it feels like to own your worth
So how do you switch to the Premium Coaching model? Or start your new coaching business using it?
1. Decide
Trying to run your business with one foot in premium and the other in the old style doesn’t work. You’ll feel inauthentic and will create unnecessary complexity.
2. Create Your Premium Coaching Packages
I recommend starting out with a Premium 1-on-1 and a VIP Day option. Then you can add a coaching group option as you build your list and reputation online (more about premium groups in an upcoming article)
3. Create Your Premium Coaching Pricing
This is the biggest shift of all — looking at coaching as delivering certain results, instead of just trying to sell clients on the # of coaching sessions delivered.
Creating your package means you have to feel confident about the steps you coach a client through (for ideas on what this can look like for you, click here to take my Free webinar training where I include a checklist of the popular topics women entrepreneurs want to hire coaches for)
4. Enroll and Re-Enroll
From day 1 of rolling out your Premium Coaching package all new clients will sign on for it.
Your current clients can transition into it either right away if you’ve been coaching session by session or month by month, or you can transition them into your new model when their old package is up.
Your coaching business is as unique as your fingerprint, and you can make the Premium Coaching model fit for what works best for you.
Your calling to be a coach means you don’t want to disappear in the crowd of other coaches…not by a long shot.
Embracing the Premium Coaching model opens up the opportunity for you to create significance for yourself spiritually and financially!
